Welcome to another week of FAQ Friday! Each Friday we’ll answer a Frequently Asked Question to help our community learn more about the home inspection industry and learn more about our company in particular.
Q: What is a termite inspection and why is it important? 🐜
A: We inspect for termites and other wood destroying insects, but we do not provide a plan of treatment or treatment, itself. Our goal is to provide a convenient and unbiased termite inspection. We provide an ODAFF 1 report, which is the official termite and wood-destroying insect inspection report.
Wood-destroying insects, such as termites, can cause significant issues in a home's wooden structural components. Anywhere that wood touches soil is a possible entry into a home for termites. It is common for termites to go undetected for long periods (it can take 60,000 termites roughly 150 days to eat 1 square foot of cellulose material), but most of the time, they are discoverable before they cause significant damage to the property.
Having a professional perform a thorough inspection for termites is in the best interest of almost every home buyer or current home owner, regardless of plans to sell or buy.
